What is good for baby eczema?

My son has had it for about 2 months now, he is 6 months and I have been using baby eczema cream which does not help. I also used cortizone .1% and the next day his face was clear, and it stayed like that for a couple of days. I was told by some people not to use it very often, so I am not. What is safe and good?

My daughter suffers from this, I was told to use cortisone as needed and did so. Aveeno’s line of products are good and they have a oatmeal bath that will calm the itching. Eucerin also has a good moisturizing lotion. Some use Vaseline but it’s not as good in my opinion but I will tell you an odd thing that really works, and that’s Crisco. Most of the prescription drugs only worked for a while on my child. A steroid shot will also clear it up or prednisone pills will but can only be taken for a short period of time.
Sheesh, our pediatrician AND allergist has given the okay to use over the counter cortisone every day many times a day when eczema gets bad (even with new babies)! It’s a large molecule steroid and does not travel (that is, it’s not absorbed by the skin nor does it move through the tissues like some things can), short of scrapping it off and eating it – so it’s okay to use it. Of course prescription strength cortisone can result in thin skin, but that’s prescription strength. Just keep it away from his eyes and mouth.
Give him daily baths in luke warm water (96-99F), use milk soaps if any at all, after the bath quickly use the cortisone followed by some thick lotion like Vaseline, Eucerin, Aquaphor, Cetaphil (we use Cetaphil now, it works well for us, we used to use a LOT of Vaseline). Humidify his room if it’s dry where you live, re-apply lotion and cortisone (cortisone underneath) many times a day.
Eucerin calming cream. You shouldnt use cortizone on his face. Maybe you could ask the doc for a prescription of some sort if over the counter creams arent working.
My doctor actually gave me hydro-cortizone and instructed me to use it 2 times a day for as long as it took for my daughter’s skin to clear. I think that’s the same thing you tried? My doctor also recommended the Aveeno products, which I use all the time. The Aveeno shampoo and wash really cleared up my daughter’s skin and it’s safe to use daily, if you wanted.
The best thing I have found for my daughter’s eczema is called Aquaphor. I can put it on her and the eczema be gone by the next day. I have tried the cortizone, a prescription the doctor gave her, and an OTC baby eczema cream and nothing works like this does.
Are you sure your son has eczema? My daughter was born with eczema and is now 4 yr old. Eczema is usually in the fold of the skin; back of knees, elbows, neck and behind the ears. Since it’s winter time and he’s six months are you sure his face isn’t just chapped from the drooling of a teething baby and the cold air?
If it is eczema Eucerin Calming Cream has worked best for my daughter. I bath her every other day and lather her in the cream. If it’s just a chapped face use Johnson and Johnson’s Soothing Naturals Balm it works great and you will notice a difference by the end of the day.
Well the best thing is prevention. Use a gentle soap like Cetaphil (bar or liquid) and moisturize. Cetaphil also makes this great cream in a tub that keeps my skin very moisturized. I usually get a few blotches here and there when I get lazy with my skincare routine. Be vigilant about moisturizing!
my doctor told me to bath my son every other day instead of everyday because of his skin drying out. although i still bath my son every night (as its part of his routine) i apply diprobase emollient cream before and after his bath and it really helps
