Is it life long? Will an over the counter lotion work? I’ve had this peeling and itching on my hands for years and it seems to only act up at the end of summer and in the winter. How can I get rid of it for good?

Hello there. The etiology of eczema is not known; so nobody knows exactly what causes the flare ups. Some usual suspects are household chemicals (detergents, shampoos,cleaning liquids, etc.) and certain foods (milk, yeast, gluten, etc).
There is an herbal cream and spray from http://www.champori.com that helps to keep my eczema in check: I haven’t had a flare up for more than a year now. And it cleared my patches (hands and face mostly) in just 2.5 weeks. Try it. (it comes with money back guarantee so there is nothing to lose)
Best,
Bernadette
i have eczema, and i have since birth. its just a skin disorder. for some people, its life long. for others, they grow out of it. and for me, the over the couster lotion does NOT work. i need to get perscriptions. but you could try it, and see if it works(:
I had it from head to toe when i was little. My doctor prescribed Hydro-cortisone (sp?) cream. When I have a break out, I put the cream on and it goes away. Lotion will not work, your skin is not dry, but inflamed. Lotion will either do nothing, or make it worse.
I heard that one of the causes is stress, but that’s not the only cause. The expensive prescribed lotions and creams may treat it for a while but it will come back. Try baths with sea salt and also modify your diet and try to add omega 3. You can use milled flax seed or add fish to your diet.
heredity and genetics play a vital role in passing eczema from one generation to another. it may appear at some point in your lives especially when the immune system is low. it can also be triggered by skin irritants and allergens and extreme hot weather. make sure you keep your child’s skin clean at all times.
to avoid eczema flare ups there are lot of things to consider like:
* keeping fingernails trimmed
* using an all natural moisturizer throughout the day will be helpful in keeping skin moist
* hydrating the skin by drinking loads of water
* avoiding foods that are processed and that have preservatives
* use natural fabrics that are soft
* avoid tight, rough and scratchy clothes
* do not sweat it, avoid activities that makes you sweat
* avoid temperatures that are extremely hot and cold
* avoid drastic change of weather
* try not to scratch the infected area
* watch and check out diet
* avoid long baths
* get rid of skin irritants like dust and pollens
* keep your environment clean
* avoid stressful situations
* quit smoking
