What are some good treatments for severe eczema? Does anyone else have a child who is dealing with eczema?

if so what do you use? My daughter has had eczema all her life and it was under control until it started getting cold, which I know aggravates eczema. I have been using cetaphil but I was wondering if there are some better treatments/lotions I could be using to help her make it through the winter itch free.

Cetaphil lotion always helped us so much! They have a cleasner too, have you tried that? My son is now 2 1/2 and still stuggles with it. I put the lotion on morning and night and when I see a spot coming up I put Corizone on it. My Dr said if I still had problems she could write out an RX but we were able to keep it under control. So if nothing helps ask your Dr. Good luck
I use the Aveeno for babies (there is one that says for eczema) and so far, that seems to help him. I haven’t had to use the cetaphil for several months.
USE EUCERIN CREAM ON HER AND ALSO USE CETAPHYL (SP?) SKIN CLEANSER. MY WHOLE FAMILY HAS THAT AND THAT IS WHAT WE USE. IT WORKS. MAKE SURE THAT YOU PUT THE EUCERIN CREAM ON HER AS SOON AS YOU DRY HER OFF FROM A BATH AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
I have had eczema for 9 years and not until recently did i start to become curious as to why I had it. I went and seen a Naturalpathologist and he did some tests and found out that I was allergic to some foods and it was causing the rash. You may consider seeing someone for your daughter, they can help you get to the core of the problem and stop it from the source.
I suffer from eczema now and have my whole life. Products that I use and love are Aveeno it really helps the itching. I also put 1% cortisone cream on my spots and use Eucerin from the tub, It’s thick and greasy but works. When I was a child I had it really bad and I use to get light therapy done. You can get by going to a dermatologist. Other little tricks are to put something on the spots immediately after baths, this helps trap in the moisture. You can also slather Eucerin on really thick then cover the area with something. I hope some of this helps, I know how hard it is to deal with.
That is a real good product Cetaphil, I use to use it. I finally grew out of my eczema as I got into adult. My mother use to put oatmeal on it. I have learned to not use every thing with no perfumes and laundry soap with no dyes/ perfumes.
NO Tide soap especially.
I use tide with bleach and bounty with fragrance in them. i also use dove soap for sensitive skin, the doctor prescribed Eledell and that helped some but the above items worked better.
My 4 year old has very severe eczema, from head to toe-literally, He scratches until his skin weeps. One thing we did was to take him to an allergist and have him tested. We found out that he is allergic to eggs and pet dander which helped to aggravate his eczema. Many children with eczema also have food and environmental allergies which make them worse. We give him a prescription syrup called hydroxyzine which helps with itching it is very similar to benydryl. He also uses a topical steroid called mometasone which works wonders but cannot be used daily because of its strength. It must be used only to get the skin under control an then as needed (Elidel is vor very mild eczema and did not help our son, but it is good for daily use when the skin is not so bad). He also takes a chewable called singular. All of these combined with environmental controls such as vacuuming daily, using special soaps and shampoos, helps keep his eczema under control. I don’t know how old your baby is but it takes years and trial and error to find something that works. You have to be diligent and let the doctors know what you want and insist (remember, you are paying him). Our doctor kept giving us the run around but I was very persistent and now we have a regime that works well, though he still has issues.
Remember bathing too much doesn’t help eczema; it only aggravates it because of the dry skin. Bathe her once per day and preferably at night to get rid of the pollens and dirt of the day, after bath, cover her in her creams and lotions while her skin is damp to lock in moisture. If you can’t get the prescriptions a good otc fix is liquid Benadryl, hydrocortisone, and Eucerine lotion. A good soap is the dove sensitive skin with 1/4 moisturizing.
I use Arbonne Baby Care line. My daughter gets her excema from me and that literally works excellent. If you wanna see about purchasing some just email me. The only other thing that works decently on our skin is Eucerin. Good luck I know how painful and annoying it can be.

- avoid detergents, cleansers and solvents
- cool it off, keep temperature a few degrees lower to keep the skin moist
- avoid to much alcohol
- choose unscented skin care products
- watch out diet and have balanced diet with fruits and vegetables
- avoid smoking and alcohol drinking
- avoid scratching the affected area.
- keep fingernails short.
- try not do things and activities that can make you sweat.

i had eczema when i was young, around 10 or so. you didn’t say how old your daughter is, so clear it with her pedi, but i used the hydrocortizone ointment and it is the only thing that ever helped me. i even used it on my face and around my eyes–i had horrible raccoon rings of eczema there–and it cleared it up.
i’ve also heard that eucerin works OK, but i don’t know personally.
This worked on my toddler’s eczema:
-Eucerin Daily Replenishing Lotion (the one that has Helianthus Annuus(Sunflower) Seed Oil listed as the second ingredient.)
-coconut oil. straight. I get it at Wild Oats. It works amazingly well. It solidifies at room temperature, but melts into the skin when you apply it.
-keep fingernails clipped
-cetaphil instead of soap
-non soapy baths every 2-3 days(air dry/lotion trouble spots just after bath)
-strictly exclude food he’s allergic to from his diet.
-"ALLfree" laundry detergent for clothes/bedding

1. Buy a humidifier for her room and keep it on all day.
2. Gently rinse the affected area twice a day with gentle and mild bar soap.
3. Apply Aquaphor (find it at any drugstore or grocery store) on the affected area often.
