Oilatum in the bath and there are lots of different creams its a case of finding the best one for your baby
if you have family history of atopy, steroids and keeping the skin moist ( with wet dressing) may help. Anti-pruritic agents also help. But if it’s not getting better, consult your pediatrician.
Get to the GP and get a repeat prescription for Diprobase cream and lotion for the bath it really works just put loads on throughout the day, my daughter is so much better since using it.
The repeat prescription means you don’t have to keep going to the GP just a trip to the chemist.
Good luck!
I used to suffer horrendously with Eczema when I was young and by luck discovered that Instant Coffee and Orange cordial were aggravating it. So I would suggest you follow your doctors advice with creams etc and try to get back to basics. As much as possible do not use Biological washing powder or perfumed softeners and avoid highly coloured foods. It is a nightmare finding out what makes it worse and it takes a long time but it is worth the effort and it can only be done by a process of elimination.
We were prescribed 0.5% hydrocortisone ointment (the lowest concentration you can get) which was applied in a very thin layer to the worst areas, with emulsifying ointment on top. It cleared up in 2 or 3 days, and with continued use of the emulsifying ointment, it never came back.
We tried oilatum and everything else at first for months as we didn’t want to use any steroid creams – the hydrocortisone was the last resort but it really did clear it up completely.
The stuff that was applied to the skin was all ointment (clear – with the texture of vaseline) – we were advised that creams are more irritating to the skin.
My daughter never suffered from ezcema again and has perfect skin now, so it hasn’t done any harm.
Good luck- I hope you find something that works for your baby.
My daughter developed eczema 2 weeks after she was born (it was so bad her checks and creases in her little arms and legs looked raw) I took her to the docoters and to the E.R and non of them could give me anything for her (for two months she was like that) till my dad one day sent me to a little mexican store and I bought a medician called Topsyn (from mexico- good for newborns & older) Oh my Gosh!! within 3 hours her skin looked almost completly healed and was all gone within 2 day’s. you can find this medication in the mexican aisle or in the auction (swampmeet on the weekends) hope this helps, It was a miracle for us..
your DR will or should have referred you to a paediatrician, and dermatologist, ask for your baby to b put on a soya milk, as mine was elegiac to cows milk, asthma usually accompanies eczema, so be aware, finding the right combination of diet and creams could take a while, don’t use biological products on her cloths, and cotton sheets help, use terry nappies,as the disposable have things added that could cause some flareups with babies with sensitive skin,my Baby is in her 20s now,and don’t have the eczema but suffers with mild asthma,so there is hope at the end of the tunnel,Don’s let his eczema stop the hugs he/she needs them more
Is your baby on Formula, you might consider changing the formula to a rice milk and see if that works.
Eczema can be caused by diet….the digestive system is not processing the food efficiently, causing eczema, see the video http://www.asktheholisticdoctor.com/video/Eczema-Video.shtml
Use SURCARE liquid to do the laundry.
Don’t use any perfumed products on your baby.
Get some emollient cream, (CETRABENS) and use instead of soap.
Don’t use talcum powder. The skin needs to be kept moist.
Put cotton mittens on your baby, to stop him/her from scratching.
Don’t allow pets to go into your baby’s room (the fur can make it worse)
Don’t have the room or bedding too warm. Eczema gets worse if the skin gets too warm.
I use Diprobase and find it fantastic. I have had eczema since I was a baby and I’m 24 now. Sometimes when it is really cold or really hot I have to use hydrocortisone. Just don’t use biological powders. The best advice is to put on cotton mittens so your baby can’t scratch the ezcema because I have found there is nothing worse than constantly itchy skin.
You may want to try something of a more natural approach. Steroids, chemically altered creams, whether prescription or otc and prescriptions medications would not be my first choice.
Organic probiotics regenerate the good bacteria in the intestinal for optimum health. Eczema can be a sign of a bacterial imbalance. This should be taken in conjunction with certified organic Intensive cream and organic bodywash/soap. I do have an organics store so am fairly up to date on ingredients and their reactions. You want a cream that contains absolutely no chemicals, artificial additives or preservatives, no fragrance, colorants or detergents. Some of the ingredients you want to avoid that are known skin irritant chemicals are 1,4-Dioxane, Alcohol, Isopropyl, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, BHA, BHT, Isothiazolinone, DEA, FD & C colorants, Formaldehyde and Paraben, just to name a few. Fragrance itself on a label can contain up to 4000 different ingredients, many of them causing allergic reactions and skin irritability and rash. Sadly, many of the otc brand names that are supposed to help the eczema, can quite literally be progressing the rash rather than benefiting it.
From what I have read there is no known cure for Eczema. It is an ongoing effort of treatment to control the eczema, but my best advice is to try something totally organic and chemical free. Always make sure you check the label on products. Some of them can be very sneaky!
vaseline vaseline vaseline! i swear to you it works!
my 2 sons have eczema one REALLY REALLY bad his skin was always open sores any place on his feet and legs that could wrinkle or bend..was cracked open down the meat bleeding and sore..he felt like an alligator..just horrible
after spending wayyy too much money on stuff that didnt work..i grabbed a tub of vaseline and put it on him after a bath..put him in a footed sleeper and his skin was like 25 percent better the next morning..ive continued to do this and its been four months..and he has not had a flare up since..
i started to do it every other night after his skin healed all the way up.. other things are.
short luke warm baths at night time..try not to use soap..daily baths was the allergens off the skin giving it less reason to flare up..
"free" laundry soaps
give your baby water
when you catch your baby scratching..stop them from scratching and rub her skin
vaseline creamy for day time..it will help provide a barrier from allergens getting to her skin without such a greasy feel
