I am using baby Aveeno and baby laundry soap and have heard that cortisone cream can take the pigment out of their skin so I would like to avoid using it on his face. Any ideas of what I can do for him to take he itch away?

I have eczema on my arms and legs, and they told me to use the Aveeno lotion as well,i guess ebcause it’s thicker. So i’m not sure if putting anything on his face would help because it might irritate it more. Also, as soon as you give him a bath dont dry his face completely and apply the lotion then because it absorbs better.
My son has eczema, diagnosed as a baby and still gets occational eczema, usually in winter. I also used a steroidal cream, but the possible side effects worried me too. What helped tremendously, believe it or not, is just plain and simply to keep the areas moisterized. Vaseline was, and still is helpful. You may want to see if your pediatrician will perscribe nystatin. You may not need to apply very much, use VERY little and then a thin coat of vaseline over that. Also, try not to use anything with any sort of perfume, that includes baby soap and Aveeno. Good luck. And congratulations on the new arrival!
Aloe is also alternative
I have 1 and 2 year old boys and believe me when I say I have tried everything for their eczema! The only thing I have found to work is cortisone cream. For their faces I use cortisone and Eucerin they mix it special for them at the pharmacy and insurance covers it. I have found that reg. OTC cortisone is effective but too strong because it’s not really for babies it says so on the box. I also use Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream (google that to see what it looks like) I’ve seen it in target, rite aid, walmart and the supermarket! It’s very good for the price never had any problems but it is a little greasy so I put it on overnight. As far as cortisone discoloring the skin I have to say the eczema alone has discolored my sons skin more they have some darker patches on their legs and back. I’m wondering does your baby have cradle cap I ask because my younger son had cradle cap and it was also in his eye brows and even his forehead he was a hair baby! It only went away when I treated it the same way I did the cradle cap in his scalp google to see pics of it…just in case it’s not eczema. Also use very little soap because soaps strip oils from the skin and eczema is a result of the skin not producing enough oils to keep the skin lubricated. Sometimes I wash my boys in water only but now that they are older and more sticky that is harder to do, so I use Dr. Bronners magic soap it’s unscented and organic and you just put a few drops in the water I don’t use wash clothes a bathing sponge works best. Also Aveeno has baby oatmeal bath packs to add to water. But my boys have eczema pretty bad you may not even need to do all this if it’s mild…just giving the whole run down in case!
