M son was diagnosed with eczema at his 2 year check up today? What cream do you recommend for his skin?

We normally lotion him twice a day with regular Johnson and Johnson lotion. The doctor said that we can’t use regular lotion anymore. We have to use a cream. She recommended aveeno or eucerin. Is there anyting else out there that you would recommend?

My son has eczema too, he’s had it since birth and he’s 14months now. We have tried everything. If it’s actually eczema then normal creams won’t work. You need a perscription. Aveeno with colloid oatmeal cream is what you doctor meant, but it won’t work. You can buy over the counter .5% hydrocortisone cream, and if that doesn’t work then you need a stonger one which you need a perscription for. Have your son tested for allergies, food or seasonal. That could be the cause. Also kids who have eczema are more likely to have Asthma.
Try Gold Bond medicated. Also if you can find some pure Shea Butter it works very well. Eczema is very very dry skin, so the trick is to keep it moisturized very well to help alleve outbreaks and itching. I’ve had Psoriatic Eczema for many years now, and one thing ive learned is that when the weather "breaks" as it did a couple of weeks ago= changing from winter to spring- i have serious outbreaks. So my skin is kinda like a barometer and I know when it’s time to step up the moisturizing!
Hydrocortisone works for small outbreaks, and if it becomes severe, then there are prescription meds that can be taken for the itching as well as prescription creams that can be used. Hope I’ve helped ya!
Eczema is not easy to live with, and it is very frustrating to itch all the time which I’m sure makes your baby irritable (it does me) but it can be managed successfully.
Also if he has a severe outbreak, dont hestitate to take him to a dermatologist for more treatment. Sun light is also very good for people with ezcema- so get him out in the sun! Okay, i’ve rambled on here, so if you have any other questions, email me= I’ll be glad to help in any way I can.
Both my children also have eczema since birth.
For us it was all bathing products – shampoos, soap, body creams. So we tossed out all the J&J products, as they seemed to make the eczema worse. Bought only ph neutral products – I’ve used a variety and found all work well (cetaphil, ego, eucerin). We also can’t use bubble bath as after about 2 days my daughters skin starts getting itchy again.
Since using these ph neutral products we no longer have issues. I always try a some bubble bath once in a while to see if they’ve ‘outgrown’ the eczema but found that it comes back.
my stepson has had eczema since birth..his mother was putting regular lotion on him and it just got worse….i found a cream at walmart in the baby section called eczema cream…it is with the lotions and babywash…it is about 7 dollars a tube but the tube lasts 4 ever…it is VERY thick… i cannot remember the namebrand of it…but it is either blue or green tube and i am preety sure that it has winnie the pooh on it…i live in TN..we were workink in MS..i had never seen it at our local walmart but found it there…you may have to find it online at http://www.walmart.com and order it if it is not in your local walmart….this stuff really works miracles,i hope that you find it
Two of my three have awful eczema, and can’t tolerate any soap or lotions. Their eczema is allergy related… Anyway, I’ve found the best solution for prevention is a 50/50 mixture of 1% hydro-cortisone and A & D ointment. After each bath I coat them in this stuff, and put them in polyester pj’s that have long sleeves and pants. Cotton fabric will absorb the moisture, but the polyester won’t. This mixture has also become my favorite diaper rash cure! Really, I’ve found the expensive lotions and creams that say they treat eczema to be a complete waste of money! Good luck, and keep his nails trim and filed as the scratching makes it much worse!
My daughter is 19 months old and she has had eczema since birth. I have tried everything from Cetaphil, aquaphor,cortizone cream, steroid creams etc. My experience with this has been horrible. Recently I started using Eucerin and it has worked the best. I try to stay away from Steroid creams as they thin the skin out. Make sure he sleeps in jammies that are allow his skin to breathe. My daughter takes a bath every other day. Water is eczema’s worse enemy. Also, try a little baking soda in his bath. Be sure the water is luke warm. You may also want to put about 1/4 cup of baking sodo in his bath. It has really helped my daughters skin.
To answer you question I would highly suggest Eurcerin. My daughter used Aveeno for months and it never helped. I know exactly what you are going through. I hope you will find something that works for you little guy. Best wishes!
