Is a child who has eczema more likely to have asthma?

My youngest 2yo boy has recently been diagnosed with eczema. A mother in my Mother’s Group said that it is only a matter of time before he gets asthma. Is this true??
Is there anything I can do to stop him getting asthma?

That is ridiculous. Eczema and Asthma are not at all related or linked. If that were the case then why don’t adults with eczema also have asthma. She is just one of those fear monger Mothers, pay her no mind.
yes the two are linked. There is nothing you can do to stop it. It is possible he won’t get it or it may be mild
The medical word is atopy.
Asthma, eczema, and allergic rhinitis (hay fever) tend to occur together.
He is not guaranteed to get asthma but there is a tendency.
Stop smoking if you do, and it may be an idea to prevent dust build up in the home, as some asthma is worsened by exposure to dust mites.
First off, don’t let someone else determine what will happen to your children, especially if it is negative. If you speak asthma, you’re greatly convincing your body that you have it, and you just may get asthma.
Second, everything that I’ve read on it states that the individual must have weak lungs, and the eczema generally needs to be very close to the mouth or where the person is breathing in the toxins from it consistently.
I had eczema on my face from my jawline up to my cheek bones from the time I was very young until I was probably 6 or 7. I also have it on my elbows and knees from time to time. I have no symptoms of asthma or any other breathing problems.
Best of luck! Don’t fret over problems that don’t exist. You’re a mother, which probably means you have enough going on to worry about things that aren’t an issue.
No. Somepeople have asthma and don’t have eczema.
OK, First of all. No that is not true. I am 24 years old a mother of three. I have asthma. I was diagnosed with it at age three. My youngest has it too. My son would get eczema when he was younger, he doesn’t have asthma. So, my answer is NO!!!
my son is borderline asthmatic but does not have eczema
There is a link between the two. My nephew has had eczema all his life but didn’t develop asthma until about 13 at which time the Dr. told his mother about the two being linked.
That is truly strange. Eczema is a skin condtion and asthma is a lung condition. I have never heard of those two things being connected.
The two are linked, but it might not happen, my grandson had terrible eczema, and he is allergic to wheat, eggs, and the terrible NUT, the nut allergy is the most dangerous, we have completely changed our eating,we check every label, thank God he is doing great, the eczema is so wonderful, I really think that my grandson was getting things in his system that weren’t good, like maybe wheat, but since we found out about his allergy’s he is so much better, have your son tested for allergy’s…this could be a problem….don’t worry about the asthma, it might not happen
