How often should you bathe an infant with eczema?

I have a six week old son with eczema. I bathe him every night. Should I be bathing him every other night? His eczema seems to be getting worse and I’m not sure of proper treatment for eczema. What kind of lotion is best for eczema? I’ve tried Johnsons, Aveeno Baby, Palmer’s, and am currently using Euceran Calming Creme which was recommended by a friend.

I have a little boy with severe eczema and we were told by our pediatrician to treat it with Hydrocortizone (sp?) cream applied to the affected area twice a day. We only bath him every 2 days and only for about 5-10 minutes. Frequent bathing removes the natural oils from the skin which can cause eczema to become worse. We also use a cool mist humidifier in his room to help keep his skin hydrated. Oh and after a bath make sure you moisturize his skin within 5 minutes of taking him out so he doesn’t dry out too much. You can also use baby oil in the bath water.
EDIT:
Also switch to a baby safe washing detergent and don’t use any fabric softener or dryer sheets.
i’d say every other day, it might be a little better on his skin
I get eczema on my hands every now and then and putting them in water (bathing my son, washing dishes, etc.) makes it much worse. I would go to bathing every other day or 2 days in between baths until it clears up because the water always irritates mine and makes it hurt. Also, a cortisone cream helps clear it up quickly. Call your pediatrician and ask them which one the recommend.
okay I couldn’t find a link, but I use the 1% hydrocortisone cream and it clears up in a couple days.
my son was getting irritated skin for awhile. it was from the johnson’s products. I switched him to Aveeno Baby Creamy Wash for Sensitive Skin. It’s unscented. The doctor also recommended using hydrocortizone. You just dab it on like lotion on the irritated spots. I would only bathe him maybe once every other day. Hydrocortizone worked great for my son. I still use it to this day sometimes. I’ve used the Aveeno brand of hydorcortizone & I’ve used the cheap store brand, they both work the same.
I had a son with eczema…. We were told to bathe him in diluted vinegar water to kill bacteria. It doesn’t strip them of natural oils. They smell like an Easter Egg when wet but they don’t dry stinky! Euceran was my favorite lotion….suggested by the doctor also!!! Once or twice a week we used oatmeal baths…..Just to soothe the areas.
I brought my daughter to the doctor for her eczema last week. He suggested not using any soap, but didn’t mention cutting back on the amount of baths. He gave me a prescription for some cream and after only 1 day of treatment there was a big improvement. Her rashes are pretty much gone now and we’ve only been using the cream for 4 days. Go to your doctor and get some prescribed cream, it should clear it right up.
My daughter has excema and she is 8 months old. I still bathe her everyday and moisturize every day as well. I find nothing helps her excema except for a prescription we got from the doctor.
