How do I control my baby’s eczema?

My 8 month old baby girl has moderate to sever eczema; her skin does okay most of the time because I keep it moisturized but sometimes her face breaks out really badly and it seems no matter what i do or what I use nothing soothes her. I know that almost anything can cause a flare up but I dont know what breaks her out so badly at certain times or how to soothe her, my mom says its our cat. What do you think?

what kind of soap do you use? my son has it too, there are prescription creams you can use but i dont like them because they have steroids, but i have used them temporarily if it gets really bad. switching her soap may be the easiest answer tho. dove is great but it will sting her eyes if she gets it in them. i use arbonne, its expensive and hard to find but since i have been using it it seems to be better. also aveno is pretty good.
could be the cat, or could just be flare ups, my daughter is the same, her flare ups became less bad when i bought a dyson hoover, dust, pet hair etc! certain shampoo’s or your purfume….but yes cat hair is a nightmare for reacting to eczema.
for my daughter i would leave her naked on a towek covered in her eczema cream, i would also on bad days cover the really sore bits in vaseline, acts as a barrier. but i aired Erin, my daughter alot, and found keeping the skin exposed to the air, moisturised and free from excess dust and animal hair did help. but like adults, childrens skin will flare up at times of stress, or growth spurts.
i know its awful. erin woudl scratch and scratc i would put my boxing gloves on her. vaseline is very good….
oh and HEMP hand cream from the body shop, though for hands, i found was great for those really cracked areas on the elbows and knees
Don’t use too much soap, the cats can possibly aggravate it and I bought expensive cleansers and creams and they helped. I can’t think of the name right now sorry. A little quick tip that actually helps is to put cornstarch baby powder on your baby’s body to help absorb the sweat and keep the area dry. Cortisone cream is good when it’s really bad but don’t overdo it.
I just went through this with my daughter! She was constantly scratching her face, I felt bad I had to keep her wrapped up almost all the time (even during diaper changes). Her skin was so dry that her ear would begin to feel moist. She also had craddle cap and Aquaphor worked wonders! By the next day you couldn’t tell by looking at her head that she even had it (could still feel it a little)! Aquaphor is like half patroleum jelly and is about $15. but will last a looong time. I took her to the doctor and he gave me a creme called CUTIVATE. I used it two days and her skin looks baby soft, without any redness. He had also suggested that I switch her formula to soy for a few weeks because she had a stomach bug (spitting up) and with the eczema I may want to continue to use the soy because it may help. I started the creme and the soy on the same day so I can’t say for sure which one helped her the most, maybe it was a combination of the two but it’s worth a try! I don’t know if you use formula but it is known that eczema can be a symptom of allergies.
Hope this helps
I read where you should put lotion on after a bath, but before you dry her off.
MY BABY IS 5 MONTHS OLD AND HE HAS THAT ONE HISCHEECK. TRY NOT TO PUT ANY BABY LOTIONS ON HIS FACE. AND USE THE CETAPHIL SOAP. MY BABYS DOCTOR PRESCRIBED SOME HYDROCORTOZONE CREAM THAT WAS 2.5% AND I PUT IT ON ONE TIME AND FOR THE MOST PART IT CLEARED UP.
