My daughter has horrible eczema. Her skin will dry out so horribly bad that she will have raised bumps, scaley looking skin, and it will sometimes crack and bleed. Any lotion even baby lotion will irritate it and burn horribly bad. I tried everything, all kinds of options, oatmeal bathes, oils and more. I took her to a dermatologist who recommended cetaphil lotion. It works wonders. The ONLY thing to tame my daughters. And she has it horrible. We put it on twice a dat every day and if we forget a day it shows. She gets it worse on her butt, elbows, armpits, knees, behind her knees, and her belly. The cetaphil is kinda pricey. $15 for a medium bottle. But you can find it at Target, walgreens, and walmart. And we bathe her every other day and it helps too. Also if she gets a flareup we don’t use soap at all in her shower just warm water. And don’t use hot water as it makes it worse as well.
Eczema will be red, raised and very itchy. If applying baby lotion makes it better and doesn’t sting then it is just dry skin. Your pediatrician can tell you which it is if you are worried.
