Does betamethasone cream helps to remove eczema scars?

I’ve been using that cream for a while. It helps to reduce the redness and it peels the skins off but will it eventually remove the scars?

No.. quite the opposite. With continued use of a strong cortisone like betamethasone, it can lead to thinning of the skin and helps to prevent the laydown of healing connective tissue. If the eczema has been controlled, then I’d advise you to stop using the cream.

Betamethasone cream – Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream, USP 0.05% (Augmented) contains betamethasone dipropionate, USP, a synthetic adrenocorticosteroid, for dermatologic use in an emollient base. Betamethasone, an analog of prednisolone, has a high degree of corticosteroid activity and a slight degree of mineralocorticoid activity. Betamethasone dipropionate is the 17, 21-dipropionate ester of betamethasone – is a medicine used to treat skin infections. Typical skin infections treated by creams containing this medication include athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm. This cream alleviates itching and redness associated with infection. The corticosteroids are a class of compounds comprising steroid hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex and their synthetic analogs. In pharmacologic doses, corticosteroids are used primarily for their anti-inflammatory and/or immunosuppressive effects. There do not appear to be any reports of this medication being used for the removal of scar tissue. No scar can be completely removed. They will always leave behind a trace, but a number of procedures can improve their appearance. These include – Surgery. Laser surgery & resurfacing. Steroid injections. Z-Plasty. Skin grafting. There are some home remedies for scars which include – A mixture of sandalwood paste and black gram paste helps reduce the intensity of scars if started early. Rubbing your skin with ice cubes helps to tighten the skin. You can use cucumber and lemon juice on your scars. Vitamin E oil when applied on the scarred skin may do wonders for your skin. To prevent deepening of the scars, apply aloe vera gel, cod liver oil or vitamin E oil. Applying cocoa butter is also a good remedy in helping getting rid of the scars.
