Hi I’m the newly proud father of a little baby girl and I have a concern it seems that she has Eczema. Her skin is always dry and cracked. I hate seeing her like that, it makes me feel like shes in pain. Her doctor said that shes to young to put anything on her skin. but baby oil is o.k. Does anyone know what I can do? she turning 4 months.

It is no fun for a parent, but it sounds like your baby is rather comfortable at this point? That is the most important thing. This problem is becoming more and more common with babies, but remember that most kids grow out of it and babies skin is so resillient. Very rarely is there any scarring at all. The best thing you can do for her is read and research EVERYTHING. Don’t rely solely on what the physicians recommend, as they often disagree. Know what you are using on your baby. Look at the ingredients and use wikipedia or another search to identify safety. Petrolium-based products may not be the best option. Every child is different and what works on one doesn’t work with the next. Try to stay with pure and natural moisturizers, if possible. We now use organic virgin coconut oil and/or palm oil, after reading that anything placed on the skin has the potential to enter the blood stream. You could keep a log/journal and try different recommended treatments on either side of her body to determine what she tolerates best.
Identifying possible causes or contributing factors will be your greatest tool to help her. We kicked out the animals, washed in hypo-allergenic soap with extra rinse cycle, used cotton clothing, limited food varieties (breastmilk only, if possible), limited exposure to others’ perfumes, hairspray, etc. We basically tried to keep her in a bubble.
Our daughter suffered for many months with severe eczema, worsening after each "round" of vaccinations. Specifically, Phenoxyethanol, which is used in many of the common pediatric vaccinations, is a preservative and a toxin with the ability to suppress the immune system and also can cause burns, blisters, dermatitis, and eczema!

Formaldehyde is another toxin which is used in nearly every vaccine. It is carcinogenic and at least one source links it, also, to eczema. Imagine my disbelief after coming across this info… and that is just the beginning. We chose to suspend all immunizations for our child just after 6 months of age. I only wish I had done the research sooner. We are still trying to bring her immune system and skin issues back into balance 4 years later.
I hope your experience is milder than ours. It sounds like her little body is dealing with enough right now without having the extra load on her immune system. You might consider a delay in additional vaccines, at least until her body has had a chance to mature and stabilize. This will give you an opportunity to read more about it. An informed partnership with your physician will be of greatest benefit to your little family. They are so precious. Sympathy and Best Wishes.
My 2 1/2 month baby has eczema and the doctor told us that we can use cetaphil on her skin. I also use Aveeno baby lotion.
Try any of these products, they are all natural:
Baby balm, healing balm from badger balm http://www.badgerbalm.com
Any of the lotions for sensitive skin by california baby http://www.californiababy.com
Or U can try washing your baby with a wee zum bar http://www.indigowild.com
I hope I helped, I promise any one of these will work and not upset the skin. i know u might be skeptical about these products since U probably have not heard of them, but really U should try them.
Stop bathing her so much and moisturize with a baby safe lotion.
Baby oil is good or baby lotion. I rub my baby down with lotion after every bath and I found that it improved the dry skin a great deal.
Baby oil is fine and Johnsons baby lotion….but seriously if you think she has eczema….you could try Alveeno baby….I don’t think that 4 months is to young to treat that…check with your doc again, could also try ProEcza its eczema treatment for infants and children.
My daughter too has eczema she is 6 months and I use Aquaphor It is AMAZING it is thick so a little goes a long why I is gentle and has no smell. you can get it on the baby aisle at wal-mart or even wal-greens and I am sure Target. It will say AQUAPHOR on it and has a blue lid. My doctor recommended it to me and It is great. I have also recommended it to other moms of eczema baby’s and they have all had fantastic results. My daughters has it right on her face and I did not want to put something on it that she could possibly get in her eyes. It itches her really bad and I put the Aquaphor on it and I have never had a problem with it when she tries to rub it. My Doc reassured me that it would not burn her eyes if she accidentally rubbed it in there. Try this and good luck. Oh yeah My Doc also said that at about 6 months they start to "out grow" it and my daughter is. I find my self using the aquaphor less and less.
Yeah the aveno lotion for eczema is good, it will help relive that itchiness. My son is 3 now and usually his Eczema doesn’t act up until its cold! Winter is tough on the skin in general, so make sure as a precation, when its cooling off alot outside and getting close to winter, keep a close eye on her legs, and upper thighs, they are usually the worst spots! But if you put a gental lotion on her everytime she has a bath, this will surely help prevent flare ups! Once the doc okays it, I’ve found that hydrocortizone cream over the counter is good for getting it gone pretty quick! One more thing, my doc told me that usually eczema and asthma go hand in hand, so have your doc check for that. Good Luck and Congrats!
My 11 month old baby suffers from eczema in some parts of his body. He has had it on and off since he was a newborn, and I know it looks bad and painful. In my case, regular treatment (twice a day) is the only things that keeps eczema at bay.
After her shower, gently pad dry her skin and apply vaseline intensive rescue moisture locking lotion. My pediatrician recommended it and it is safe for babies. It locks the moisture in all the body preventing the eczema to reappear or spread. After that, apply Aquaphor to the affected areas, massaging gently. I apply good quantity of this stuff in case something gets in the clothes, diaper area, etc.
If her skin looks really patchy and red, bath her first with Aveeno Baby Oatmeal bath. This stuff really helps, leaves baby skin supple.
I do this everyday with my son and he is way better. But the Aquaphor is applied to affected areas twice a day everyday.
I use the Aveeno Bath just when his skin looks too red.
Good luck!
Congrats to you! It’s pretty common my son had some patches of it as well. I used aveeno products un-scented creamy baby wash and the unscented lotion. It has since cleared up and he hasn’t had it since=:>)
my kids all had it, aveeno baby lotion works well, i use the johnsons bedtime lotion because i love the smell of it, everynight after the bath i rub it all over my daughters body and then in the morning before getting dressed we put the cream on again because she too has really dry skin
baby oil may not be ok, my daughter used to flare to that too- jsut check
I’ve used a eczema natural blend from this site- and it has reduced a lot, I use it now very rarely.
Try it, they have sample sizes to chek on
